Pokémon Wordle, guess the name in six tries
Pokémon Wordle adapts the famous word game to Pokémon names. You get six tries to find the mystery Pokémon name, letter by letter. After each guess the tiles change color to show which letters are correct and well placed, present but misplaced, or absent.
Pokémon names change from language to language
There are more than a thousand Pokémon spread across nine generations today, and their names look nothing alike from one language to another. Bulbasaur in English is Bulbizarre in French and Fushigidane in Japanese; only a few names like Pikachu are identical everywhere. Wordle uses names in the language of the site, so the grid feels different depending on whether you play in English, French or Spanish.
The length of the name is not given at the start, you have to deduce it. Names range from three letters, like Mew, to more than ten, which strongly affects how hard the round is.
Strategy to solve it in fewer tries
Start with a name rich in vowels and common letters to reveal as much information as possible on your first guess. Then use the yellow tiles to reposition the letters you know, and mentally rule out every Pokémon whose name contains a gray letter. With a bit of method, six tries are almost always enough, even for the longest names.
How to play
- Type a valid Pokémon name and submit your guess.
- A green tile means the letter is correct and in the right spot.
- A yellow tile means the letter is in the name but elsewhere.
- A gray tile means the letter is not in the name.
- You have six tries to find the mystery Pokémon of the day.
Common mode gives every player the same Pokémon each day, so scores can be compared fairly. Replay mode generates a different Pokémon every game so you can practice without limits.
