Pokémon Ability Quiz, guess the Pokémon
An ability is a passive trait that acts in battle, like Intimidate which lowers the opponent’s Attack. This quiz shows you three abilities, two normal and one hidden, and asks you to find the Pokémon that learns them.
Abilities and hidden abilities
Abilities appeared in the third generation and became a pillar of strategy. A Pokémon has one or two regular abilities, and sometimes a hidden ability, introduced in the fifth generation and harder to obtain. The series has several hundred abilities, from Intimidate which lowers the opponent Attack to Levitate which grants immunity to the Ground type.
An ability works constantly without using a turn: it can change the weather, heal, raise a stat or guard against a status. It often defines a Pokémon battle role far more than its moves alone.
Deducing the Pokémon from its abilities
The combination of the three abilities shown is almost always unique. By recognizing a signature ability you immediately rule out most candidates. Still torn between two Pokémon? The hidden ability, being rarer, usually settles the question.
